National Trials

The South African Schools Debating Team Trials are the culmination of a long and rigorous selection and pre-training programme that starts from the first day of the previous year’s National Schools Debating Competition.

The process starts with the South African coach convening a panel of experienced selectors to watch debates at the National competition and consider the talents of various speakers from both the Open and Development streams. From these discussions twelve debaters representing a mix of skill and potential are selected to attend S.A. National Trials.

The South African Schools Debating Trialists fought hard and endured a brutally competitive trials process to emerge from an exceptional group of talented and driven debaters.

From the group of trialists for the 2017 WSDC team, the following were selected:

  • Katya Broomberg
  • Eric Kazadi
  • Tshepo Mofokeng
  • Daniel Lee
  • Michaela Ho

We congratulate them and wish them the best for the World Championships in Bali.
